The Black Order

'...those ragged bands of the landless and dispossessed flocked to the banners of warlords whose might and strength was equalled only by their greed, avarice and cruelty...Of these, the Black Order was the most feared.

The Battle at Black Cross was their genesis; the last of the Kingdom's old military orders, they turned on their brothers beneath the shadow of Mons Volans and butchered twelve thousand men in a betrayal that shaped a generation of warriors.

Exiled yeomen, outcast knights and common mercenaries, for ten years they reaved the border lands with the South and created a no-man's-land of devastated homesteads, desecrated shrines and razed cities. Their hatred for the southern lands was absolute; their belief was that they had themselves been betrayed, and theirs was a war of vengeance.

That the Order's holdings in the North would become the sole enclave of the living when the Dark returned once more to the Continent was an irony that only the gods themselves could have appreciated.'
